After appearing for a surprise opener with Kendrick Lamar, Bey took home trophies for Video for the Year for “Formation”, Best Female Artist and the FANdemonium Award. She skipped out early though to catch a flight to Europe for the next leg of her “Formation World Tour,” so her mother Tina Lawson accepted on her behalf, thanking Mathew Knowles and Jay Z during her two speeches.
Drake was a no-show for the ceremony, but took home three awards, including Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, and Best Group with Future, who accepted the honor on their behalf.
Nicki Minaj took home Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, marking her seventh consecutive win in the category.
