French Montana Says Albums Without Features Are By “Weirdos”

Seeing an album filled with collaborations is standard these days, but years ago, albums only features a handful of guests… if any.

These days, an album/project without a feature is rare… but according to French Montana, those who choose to go that route are “weirdos”.

In a cover story for Paper, the New York rapper shared his thoughts on featureless albums.

“Who sits there thinking about weird sh*t like [going platinum with no features]?” Montana said. “Those people who put albums out by themselves are weirdos. Music is about having fun. If I’m chilling with ASAP Rocky, or chilling with Drake or the Weeknd and we record, and then I have to say, ‘Look here, bro, I’m thinking about dropping this album just by myself.’ Artists would stop f*cking with you.”

Elsewhere in the story, French says he’s not looking for critical acclaim. His goal in recording is to make more money than last time. “It’s what I feel, it’s what the people feel,” he explained. “If your name is not getting bigger everyday, that’s a problem. It’s like, when you’re hustling and making money. If you’re not making more money than you made last year then something’s wrong. You have to reevaluate your books.”

French doesn’t mention any artist by name, but recent projects without guests includes J. Cole’s 4 Your Eyez Only and Future’s self-titled project.

French Montana dropped his Jungle Rules album in July.
